A $20M Federation Estate, designed by our Founder
A project from our archives has recently returned to the market and it’s a special one! As this project finds new life, it serves as a reminder of the long-term value of considered design.
Designed and documented in 1989, by our Founder, Drew Dickson, this Federation style home is all about proportion, detail and permanence.
Perhaps the most defining aspect of this project lies not only in the built outcome, but in how it was conceived.
Every element of this project was originally hand-drawn by Drew. Plans, details and elevations were developed through a process that demanded time, precision, meticulous attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of construction.
While styles and technology continue to shift at a greater pace than we could ever imagine, certain fundamentals endure.

Enduring Principles remain today:
a strong connection to site and landscape
clarity in planning and spatial hierarchy
A commitment to materiality and detail
An understanding of how people live in and experience a space
These are the principles that shaped this residence, and they continue to underpin the work we do today.
What was perhaps most striking was the reaction within our own studio. While those familiar with traditional methods appreciated the discipline and clarity of the work, some of our younger graduates found it almost difficult to comprehend the process. In an era of instant revisions and layered digital modelling, the idea of resolving an entire project by hand, with that level of detail, felt almost unimaginable!
