Knox Grammar Senior School Boarding Centre
The completion of the new facilities resulted in them being fully booked, highlighting their remarkable success and impact.
The original brief received from the school called for the refurbishment and modernisation of the two existing boarding houses. However, upon analysis and extensive consultation with the school, it became evident that upgrading the existing facilities posed considerable challenges. Rather than a potentially limited upgrade we designed and embarked on an innovative approach that capitalised on the available land while preserving the historical significance of Gillespie House.
Our team delved into comprehensive research, studying precedents both in Australia and internationally, to craft a design for a 21st-century boarding house. This concept materialised into a construction that maximised the potential of the existing site, giving rise to the 3-4 storey built form encompassing single and double rooms with contemporary ensuites, inviting breakout spaces, study zones, and house master accommodation.
